Object Description

From our collection of antique Japanese metalware from the time of Emperor Meiji, (186801912) this fascinating Bronze vase vast using the Mitsuro Hikime (lost wax) technique to cleverly depict flowering Irises.

The artist has also used the technique to simulate a stream running along at the bottom of the vase. Some types of Irises (Water or Marginal Irises) are known to grow in or around water.

Mitsuri Hikime is a Japanese wax-sculpting method that is used to form delicate patterns and organic-like textures in sculpture and jewellery.
