Object Description
This impressive large scale Italian Baroque style putti statue depicts three winged cherubs in exceptional detail, hand carved into solid pine wood. The putti statue dates from the 1860s and is of Baroque style, showcasing the drama, movement and animation of sculptures and architecture during the era. The three nude winged infants – known as putti or cherubs – support a large carved pine clam shell as if making an offering and stand on a pillow shaped base. Beautifully ornate, this Baroque putto statue has been preserved for more than 150 years, only small losses revealing the sculpture’s age. It is an impressive statue for an interior inspired by Baroque and Renaissance styles, showcasing the remarkable talent of the 19th century woodcarver.
