Object Description

The wonderfully eccentric oversized oak bobbin turned wingback armchair, of Charles II style, having a slanted back to small ear wings, the red and midnight blue pineapple velvet fabric being hobnailed, to a rexine covered back, the oak arms with scroll ends and the whole with bold bobbin turned legs and stretchers to bun front feet and surviving from the first quarter of the twentieth century.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

Blending elements of seventeenth century design with an oversized frame and some wonderfully idiosyncratic fabric makes this a real wonky English country house classic.

Brilliantly bonkers and ever so eccentrically English.

Object Condition

In very much country house condition, the chair remains useable daily and the wonderfully bizarre velvet fabric is now beautifully worn in the right areas. There is some minor movement to the joints but she remains a great chair to sit in.
