Object Description

The pine carcass showing the wonderful original very dark brown stain or paint, worn thoroughly and consistently with age, with a beautifully worn top having a shaped gallery back with unusual rolled flanks, over a single drawer with original knob handles, the whole raised on square tapering legs, and surviving from the William IV to early Victorian period.

Object History

Unknown.

Object Literature

The shaped gallery back here is not typical, and we have never seen rolled flanks before, which were seemingly added to stop quills and other items from falling off the surface.

Just as useful as it is decorative.

Object Condition

The honest and provincially made carcass has a wonderful patina, with a host of character commensurate with its age and heavy use. It is ready to go.
