Object Description

From our collection of antique Japanese metalwork, this unusual Japanese, late 19th Century (Circa 1880) Koro standing on four naturalistic feet.

The body of the Koro features a textured repousse Shakudo ground with a flock of multimetal sparrows in Bronze, Copper, Gold and Silver. The birds flying excitedly around a Balloon Flower (Platycodon grandifloras) shrub in full bloom.

The lower section of the body beautifully designed to replicate a Bamboo structure.

The cover of the Koro is decorated with a fine pierced foliate filigree design with Gold used wonderfully to pick out the seeds at the heart of each flower.
