Object Description

An Unusual Pair of Rococo Style Mirrors

The mirrored plates of waisted and curved form, carefully bevelled on all edges, housed within elaborate carved frames consisting of acanthus leaves, flowers, foliage, and rocaille motifs including shells, each mirror with a pierced trellis crest centred by a lobster surrounded by carved bulrush and a shell issuing acanthus scrolls.
English, circa 1850

Intriguingly, one mirror has a pencil inscription reading ‘Music Room,’ while the other is marked with ‘South Bedroom,’ giving us a glimpse into their past.
