Ca. 1200-700 BC
An ancient bronze sword with a leaf-shaped blade that gracefully tapers to a sharp point, allowing for precise thrusting and cutting actions. Originating from Western Asia or the Aegean, the blade exhibits a pair of raised ribs, which serve to strengthen the structure of the weapon and enhance its visual appeal. The hilt of the sword is fashioned with a round-section shank, characterised by an intricately spiralling rib that enhances the aesthetics but also the grip of the weapon. The sword culminates in a D-shaped stone pommel, which contributes to the balance of the weapon and acts as a symbol of prestige and status.
Bronze weapons held paramount importance in Bronze Age Western Asia, revolutionising warfare and hunting. The adoption of bronze as a primary material for weaponry represented a significant technological advancement, as bronze offered superior strength, durability, and cutting capabilities when compared to earlier weapons crafted from stone or copper.
