Object Description

An Egyptian scarab beetle carved from a black hardstone. The anatomical features have been naturalistically rendered to include a striated head with a serrated frontal clypeus. Incised lines disect the prothorax and elytra, with scalloped edges to indicate the femurs. The underside features further anatomical detail with incised lines on the underbelly. The scarab is not pierced.

Date: Circa 664–332 BC
Period: Late Period

Ex Saud al Thani of Qatar collection (known as the Prince collection) 1990s-2014. Ex. Private collection 1970s-1990s.

Object Condition

Fine condition with some earthly encrustations to the surface. Minor chips to the edges of the reverse.
