Ancient Egyptian Red Limestone Pot

Object Description

An ancient Egyptian, red-coloured polished limestone pot of globular form. The vessel has a short and wide body with gently rounded shoulders rising to a short, straight-sided neck and thick rim. The surface displays continuous concentric turning striations, in tones of red, plum and white, with the banding following the horizontal axis of rotation. The base is flat with a shallow recessed foot.

Date: Circa 2040–1650 BC
Period: Middle Kingdom

Object Condition

Good Condition, fully intact. Some surface wear such as pitting, some chipping to the base as consistent with age and use.
