Object Description
A stunning Ancient Greek hollow-formed terracotta bust of a female figure. The woman’s face is depicted in a three-quarter turn, slightly angled downwards, her classical features are beautifully rendered including large almond-shaped eyes, a long straight nose, and a small mouth. On top of her head, she is wearing the Corinthian helmet pushed back from her face, with wavy centrally-parted hair visible underneath. The woman is wearing what looks like a cuirass, which is lavishly decorated with a floral relief. Projecting elements above the figure’s shoulders could also be part of the armour. The inclusion of the armour suggests that this is a representation of Athena, Greek goddess of war and military wisdom.
