Object Description

A fine Roman cockerel attachment cast from bronze. The stylised bird features a long body with a curving tail and comb and a short beak. A small loop has been added to the top of the body for suspension. The piece has been mounted on a custom-made stand.

Date: Circa 1st-3rd century AD

Object History

‘The Ancient Menagerie Collection’ formerly the property of a Cambridgeshire lady, collected since the 1990s and acquired from auctions and dealers throughout Europe and the USA, now ex London collection.

Object Condition

Fine condition, patination and wear to the surface due to age. Height of cockerel without the stand, 4.9cm
