Object Description
A fine, ancient Roman terracotta factory oil lamp, known as a ‘Firmalampe’. The lamp features a rounded discus with outward sloping shoulders, separated by a deep ridge. Symmetrically placed lugs appear on each side and one to the top. There is a protruding rounded nozzle with a flat, D-shaped tip. The ridge around the discus continues down the nozzle, creating a characteristic channel and border around the nozzle. The base is flat, marked by concentric circles and a possible maker’s mark, which has now faded.
