Object Description

A stunning pair of ancient Roman gold earrings. Each earring is decorated with a teardrop-shaped garnet in a bezel setting. Gold wire fishhooks were applied to the backs of the bezels. Two-tier pendants decorate the earrings underneath. A large hollow gold pellet formed by two hemispheres is secured on a gold pin with two suspension loops on either ends. A bigger gold teardrop-shaped pendant is attached to the bottom suspension loop.

Date: Circa 2nd – 3rd Century AD

Object Condition

Very fine condition. Warping, splitting, cracks to the gold. Cracks and dents to one of the circles. The pin securing the other round pellet is covered with encrustation. Both teardrop-shaped pendants are split down the middle, with the edges of the gold leaf revealing small cracks and tears. Dents to both bottom pendants.
