Ancient Roman Silver Bull Statuette

Object Description

An Ancient Roman bull statuette cast from silver standing on all four short legs. The animal is finely modelled with the anatomical features naturalistically rendered including the protruding ears, pointed horns and the large hump on its back. Slight indentations have been applied to represent the eyes and incisions to indicate the nose.

Date: Circa 1st-2nd century AD

Object History

‘The Ancient Menagerie Collection’ formerly the property of a Cambridgeshire lady, collected since the 1990s and acquired from auctions and dealers throughout Europe and the USA, now ex London collection.

Object Condition

Very fine condition. Minor encrustation and patina to the surface.
