Object Description

A stunning tall antique wrought iron pedestrian gate in Victorian style, handcrafted by a talented early 20th century blacksmith.

Standing at 1.8m tall, this wrought iron gate is perfect for the side of a house or a narrow courtyard, the elaborate design of scrolls meeting in heart shaped patterns, a beautiful arched top and twisted bars to the centre frame, bringing both style and security to a property.

Wrought Iron Garden Gates

Gates and ironwork made from wrought iron have stood the test of time. This traditional method of craftsmanship sees the metal heated to a high temperature and then hammered into shape by a blacksmith’s hand, creating a robust and durable finish.

The more wrought iron is worked, the stronger it becomes, making some of the most ornate antique gates some of the strongest. Large scale commercial production of wrought iron products ended in the mid 1970s due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of blacksmithing, making wrought iron gates true antiques, showcasing talented craftsmanship of the past.

Additional information

The width of the gate alone is 86.5cm but the overall width of 94cm includes the opening width with the hinges.

Object Condition

Good structural condition. Light surface rust and traces of paint. Fitted with an original latch and replacement hinge eyes and pins.
