Object Description

An antique 19th century giant clam shell. Also known by its Latin name Tridacna gigas, this clam is of a large scale and has a smooth clean finish. It could be used externally, perhaps as a water feature, or internally as a basin in a home. Alternatively, it would look stunning on display due to its impressive appearance.

This item embodies different styles; Victorian, Edwardian and country.

Tridacna gigas

Tridacna gigas is a very decorative giant clam shell with a well-defined shape and good colour. Giant clams inhabit the oceans of the Pacific and Indian Oceans and have a lifespan of over 100 years. The layers, built up over the course of many years make the shells very heavy and difficult to date precisely.

This item may be subject to export restrictions. Delivery is available to England, Wales, and Scotland only.

Object Condition

Good structural condition. Surface slightly weathered. Chip to the tallest part of the front. Could be drilled for use as a basin or water feature. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses, scuffs, and scratches.
