Object Description

A very fine 19Th Century mahogany six legged demi lune card table with sunburst inlaid top.
This extremely good quality fold over card table of demi lune form dating to the late 19th century circa 1880 has a beautifully segmented flame veneered and inlaid top also known as a sunburst top.
Having a satinwood banded and ebony inlaid edge with each segmented flame mahogany veneer divided by boxwood stringing tapering down to an inlaid fan.
Below which the table top edge having a double boxwood inlay to the fold over top which opens to reveal the original baize lined surface in good condition considering it’s age with a slight opening and fading to the centre which is to be expected as being original.
Being rare, having six legs the mahogany rear legs unusually pull out from its base with the norm being a single gate-leg action therefore adding more support to the top and overall more elegant in its proportions.
The frieze being of bowed form having satinwood banded sections with the whole being raised on finely tapering inlaid legs terminating on spade feet.
The choice of timbers used are superb and in excellent condition having been restored using traditional methods with a superb colour.
A very attractive card table with exceptional inlay that is an ideal side table until it needs to be used.
