Object Description
Antique Baktiar Carpet
2.96 x 2.33 m
Baktiar carpets, woven in Northwest Persia, are well known as among the most distinct, and thus highly sought after, Persian weavings, thanks to their unique combination of the playful, geometric designs of nomadic and tribal rugs, and the scale and high-quality craftsmanship one would expect of a Persian workshop piece.
This handsome early 20th Century example boasts a charming all-over design, rather than the conventional central medallion motif, with a grand scale pattern creatively repeated across the field in a wide variety of earthy vegetable-dyed colours, including tones of cornflower blue, warm terracotta, and camel, all framed by a wide, ivory border.
Retained in very good practical condition for everyday use, with its borders preserved on all sides – its colours have taken on a characterful patina with age.
An attractive tribal weaving, to add charm and personality to a wide range of interiors.
