Object Description
In fantastic original condition with a rich full pile. This antique Bidjar has a beautiful ivory border which lightens up the rug. Woven with an all over ‘Herati’ pattern a great durable rug for many rooms.
Rugs from Bidjar are very tough due to their structure which consists of usually five weft threads, two are loose wool threads followed by one taut cotton thread, then a further two loose wool threads. These are tightly beaten together against the knots, creating an extremely tight, compact rug. They tend to be floral in design, with the ‘Herati’ fish design commonly used in the main field and border.
