Object Description

A carved wooden figure depicting Mr Pickwick standing to attention on a wooden base, with his hands in his pockets. The facial features are well carved and the whole has the remains of coloured decoration, retaining a patination.

Samuel Pickwick is a fictional character and the main one in The Pickwick Papers (1836), the first novel by author Charles Dickens. It was one of the author’s most famous and loved novels. Pickwick was a retired successful businessman and is the founder and chairman of the Pickwick Club.
