A very rare matching pair of early antique silver boxes of octagonal form, with pull off tops, dating from the reign of King Charles II. Sterling silver. Simple plain form with a large hand engraved crest within tied plumage, very typical of the date. Superb antique colour. At this date boxes of this type would have originally been part of an extensive toilet service. Total weight 239 grams, 7.6 troy ounces. Height 3.5 cm. Width of top 9 cm. London 1675. Maker Isaac Dighton, London.

Biography. Isaac Dighton, London silversmith. Free of the Haberdashers Company 1672. Died 1707.

Object Condition

Very good, particularly considering the age. No damage. There is one old repair to one of the corners (see photo). Fine antique patina. Both bases are fully stamped around the body with English silver hallmarks and have the scratch weight underneath the base. Box 1 has the makers mark stamped twice inside the lid. Box 2 has the date letter, lion and makers mark stamped inside the lid.
There are some minor dinks and unevenness compatible with their age.
Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
