Antique Coalbrookdale cast iron stickstand.

Object Description

A 19th century Coalbrookdale cast iron stickstand in the form of a terrier sitting on it’s hind legs with front paws crossed, a braided hunting crop in it’s mouth and an expectant expression on it’s face. The stickstand retains the original brown patination on the dog and green on the lily leaves in the shaped tray which sits on scroll feet. English 1852.

Object History

The Coalbrookdale kite mark on the tray dates the stickstand to 1852, just a year after The Great Exhibition, and there is also a foundry number(see photos).

Fine original colour and patina.
