Object Description
A beautifully presented late nineteenth century striking carriage clock.
The regilded classic Corniche-styled case is immaculate, and is fitted with five perfect beveled glasses, including an oval top glass for viewing the platform. The base plinth is stepped. The carrying handle is one-way folding – only backwards.
The eight day movement’s backplate and frontplate are stamped with the number 3236. The jewelled silvered lever platform escapement has a shaped back edge and is engraved Fast and Slow.
It strikes the hours and the passing of the half hour on a coiled gong.
This clock displays distinguishing features of Henri Jacot’s work, but carries no HJ trademark / signature. However, the gong block is stamped FD, the mark of his known gong supplier.
