Object Description
This beautiful oil on panel painting represents an ideal landscape: figures recline by a tree, cows and sheep laze in the late afternoon light, and the vista visible to the right of the panel evinces a land well-tended with the church steeples of a distant town defining the horizon. The work is painted in a 17th Century Dutch manner—indeed, the current piece was once sold as being by Jan Hackaert, as evidenced by the sticker on the back of the panel.
The picture is held within a giltwood frame.
