Object Description
This is a wonderful Antique English Edwardian clear cut crystal and sterling silver mounted claret jug, with hallmarks for Sheffield 1907.
This lovely claret jug bears the makers’ mark of Marples & Co, Sheffield, who were a wholly-owned subsidiary of Martin, Hall & Co.
The body of the jug is of beautiful and stylish cylindrical tapering shape. The attractive neck is fitted with a very fine plain sterling silver mounted flat hinged cover. It has a charming hand-pierced thumb-piece and a sparrow-beak style spout.
It features a wonderful scroll cast silver handle and an elegant clear cut crystal body with magnificent octagonal hobnail decoration and with a star-cut flat base.
The lid is impressed with full hallmarks – Lion passant for sterling silver, the crown symbol for Sheffield, letter ‘p’ for 1907, and makers’ mark ‘M&Co’ for Marples & Co.
There is no mistaking its unique quality and design, which is sure to make it a treasured piece by any discerning collector.
Condition:
In excellent condition with no dings, dents or signs of repair.
