Object Description

This is an exquisite antique Edwardian sterling silver snuff box / pill box, with hallmarks for Colin Hewer Cheshire, Chester and the date mark for 1901,

The snuff box is of rectangular form finely engraved with sinusoidal bands separated by lozenges and features further foliate decoration around the edge and a vacant cartouche with a striking gilt interior.

There is no mistaking its unique quality and design, which is certain to add a special something to your silver collection.

Colen Hewer Cheshire
was a Birmingham silversmith known for producing a wide range of personal and domestic silver goods from the late nineteenth century onwards.

Working from Northampton Street and first registered in November 1894, the firm became recognised for its finely made accessories and small luxury items.

Cheshire’s output included boxes, tea caddies, cigarette cases, sovereign cases, vesta cases, vinaigrettes, travelling communion sets, napkin rings, card cases, spectacle cases, flasks, note pads, pepperettes, spoons and dressing table pieces such as brushes and combs. These items were typically crafted in silver or silver plate and are now appreciated for their quality, variety and classic Birmingham craftsmanship.
