Description:
This is an early antique English 17th century solid oak inlaid cupboard on stand, circa 1650 – 1700 and later, with original carvings, in excellent condition. The cupboard on stand is constructed with a twin-plank cross banded moulded oak top and features panelled solid oak sides. The cupboard on stand boasts a primitive carved design, comprising a narrow-recessed central panel, incorporating Corinthian carved columns above a carved guilloche arch, flanked by two large recessed arcadian door panels, incorporating a repeating design on a larger scale. The doors and upper section are decorated with chequered ebony and boxwood inlay. This inlay decoration is also repeated on the stand below. The two large doors open to reveal a spacious internal storage space, with a shelf. The doors retain the original iron butterfly hinges. The cupboard on stand is raised on an oak stand, which has been constructed with later Victorian elements. The stand features a moulded frieze, on four sturdy barley twist legs, united by a solid oak pot-board on turned feet. The cupboard on stand dismantles into two sections (see photos), allowing for easy transportation and access into the home. This is a heavy piece of furniture, which is indicative of its age.

The cupboard on stand boasts a rich deep oxblood oak colour, with a wonderful grain configuration to the front and sides. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

This cupboard on stand on stand would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the hallway or dining room. It would certainly grace any home. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
