Here is a fine quality antique English Edwardian solid oak and leather revolving office armchair, with an Art Nouveau influence, featuring a serviced reclining and height adjustable mechanism, circa 1910, in excellent condition. The armchair features a curved bar back, connected to shaped arms, supported by an elegant splayed vertical high fan back (ideal for stronger back support). The chair seat has been newly upholstered in top quality full grain sage green leather, which has been finished with hand-tacked brass studs to the perimeter. The underside of the seat has been re-webbed in the traditional manner. The front and sides of the seat are decorated with a scroll shaped frieze. The chair mechanism has been restored and serviced and is in excellent working order. The chair incorporates a mechanism allowing it to rotate 360 degrees and recline backwards. The seat height can be adjusted by turning a ribbed metal screw on the underside of the chair. The chair sits on four splayed solid oak legs which terminate on top quality replacement English made solid brass & mug castors. The chair is extremely comfortable to sit on as it features a lovely padded seat with a high back.
The armchair features a rich golden-brown oak colour. The chair has been cleaned and French polished, by hand, to a professional standard, in our workshop, therefore the polish and patination is of an excellent standard.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms in the home, especially the office or study as it is so comfortable. This item would certainly grace any home. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
History of Art Nouveau Period:
Dating between 1896-1914, the Art Nouveau period was known for women with long hair, flowers and curves, and so is Art Nouveau furniture. The Paris Exposition of 1900 introduced furniture styles reflecting what was happening in the rest of the design world, such as jewellery and silver. This style of furniture was not warmly embraced, as the sweeping lines were not very conducive to mass production. The French however, held it in higher esteem. Legs tend to be sweeping or cabriole.
