Description:
Here is a fine antique English 18th century George II solid oak provincial cabinet on stand, circa 1740 and later, in excellent condition. The cabinet is constructed with a three-plank cross banded moulded oak top and features panelled solid oak sides. The cabinet boasts a primitive geometric design, comprising a single full width moulded panelled drawer, with primitive hand dovetailed joints on a sliding bar, with oak lined sides and bottom. The drawer front features old replacement (most likely Victorian) brass drop handles, as well as a central faux keyhole with brass escutcheon. Below is a cupboard containing a single shelf, with two panelled doors separated by a further faux keyhole and featuring brass drop handles. The cabinet is raised on a later Victorian moulded oak stand. The stand boasts bulbous turned legs and block feet, united by stretchers for additional strength. To the rear of the stand is a wooden latch, which holds the top section in place when in situ. The cabinet on stand dismantles into two sections (see photos), allowing for easy transportation and access into the home.

The cabinet features a rich deep oxblood oak colour, with a wonderful grain configuration to the front and sides. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

This cupboard on stand would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the hallway or dining room. It would certainly grace any home. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
