Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Georgian oak sideboard / dresser base, boasting a single-plank top, displaying a lovely rich oxblood colour, from the George III period, circa 1780, in very good condition. Originating from North West England, the Georgian oak sideboard / dresser base comprises a solid oak single-plank top, which is quite rare to see. With three large working drawers, the central drawer incorporates a working lever lock (with key), flanked by secret locking mechanisms on the outer drawers (by turning rotating an internal catch on the inside of the frame, it locks the outer drawers shut). The drawers are decorated with later period brass knobs and are constructed with butt-joints, using pine drawing linings. The drawers close flush to the frame. The frame is constructed in the traditional manner, featuring mortice and tenon pegged joints. Below, the Georgian oak sideboard / dresser base is designed with a central bank of dummy drawers, flanked by two fielded panel doors, which open to reveal a spacious storage area, with a single shelf at the back, which runs the full width of the dresser. The right-hand door retains it original steel working lock (with key). The left-hand door can be locked by sliding an internal wooden bolt inside (which can be opened or locked by accessing the right-hand drawer). The Georgian dresser retains its original backboards and floor. The inset panels are replicated on each side of the Georgian oak sideboard / dresser base. The dresser stands on the original block feet.

This Georgian oak sideboard / dresser base boasts its original polish and patination, displaying a rich oxblood colour, which has been created from 200 years of care. This Georgian oak sideboard / dresser base is an excellent investment as it is so practical and would look superb in a variety of rooms from the kitchen, hallway or living room, offering plenty of useful storage space.

Condition Report:
This is a fine quality antique English Georgian oak sideboard / dresser base, boasting a single-plank top, displaying a lovely rich oxblood colour, from the George III period, circa 1780, in very good condition. Nominal old use marks to the top of the Georgian oak sideboard / dresser base, leading edges and both side panels (see photos), but nothing significant considering the age of the item. As the dresser incorporates a single plank-top with an original knot hole at the back of dresser; it features an original renovation, with a piece of oak inserted (see pictures). This would most likely have been done at the time of making the dresser. Knot holes are visible characteristics that are circular and darker than the surrounding area. This knot was once the base connection of a branch in the tree but has been grown around by the rest of the grain. Old period restoration to top front right-hand corner too (which is solid in joint). The drawers are decorated with later period brass knobs. The central top drawer features an original working lock and key. The two outer drawers boast secret locking mechanisms. The right-hand cupboard door retains its original working steel lever lock (with key) and the original steel butterfly hinges. The drawer linings, back-boards, floor and feet are all original. The Georgian oak sideboard / dresser base boasts the original polish; therefore, it has a fantastic depth of colour and patination displaying a lovely rich oxblood colour. This Georgian oak sideboard / dresser base is solid in joint and ready to use.
