Description:
This is a superb quality English George I style burr walnut chest on chest, of small proportions, with stunning inlaid veneer work, which has been constructed in the Edwardian period, circa 1910, in good original condition. The chest on chest boasts stunning grain configuration and colour to the figured walnut on the drawer fronts and sides of the chest. Constructed during the Edwardian period, it comprises a protruding moulded cornice above a two-over-three drawer design to the top. The chest consists of two halves. The drawers feature the original brass swan neck handles and shaped brass fretwork escutcheons, with the original working lever locks and working key. Furthermore, the drawers are oak lined and hand dovetailed. The drawer fronts exhibit moulded edges, with walnut cross banding, as well as fine feather banding. The top section of the chest boasts elegant canted reeded corners. The top section terminates at the base of the intersection between the two chests, where a further horizontal moulding separates the two chests. The top chest is smaller than the base chest, which consists of a brushing slide, above three drawers. The bottom-most drawer boasts a concave demi-lune niche, which displays walnut & satinwood inlay in the shape of a sunburst. Therefore, the piece is very decorative and features lovely proportions. The whole piece is also designed with smaller proportions, so it is likely to fit in more rooms. The sides of the chests are also constructed from walnut. The chest also features its original pine backboards and whole of the chest stands on its original bracket feet. The top and bottom are completely original. This is an ideal item for the bedroom or landing for storing clothes.

The chest boasts a mellow honey-brown colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from bedroom to the landing; it is very useful as there are so many drawers for storage. This item would certainly grace any home. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
