Description:
This is a fine quality antique English early Georgian walnut chest on chest, boasting lovely small proportions, with stunning decorative burr walnut figuring and boxwood inlay, circa 1720, in excellent condition. This early Georgian tallboy chest displays a transitional design from the Queen Anne to the George I period, evident with its cavetto moulded cornice, canted corners, pine sides and bracket feet. The Georgian walnut chest on chest boasts lovely small proportions at only 5ft 8” high x 3ft 5⅞” wide and features seven graduated drawers. The Georgian walnut chest on chest consists of two halves, separated by a moulding at the midpoint. There is a simple moulded apron to the underside terminating on its original bracket feet. The top comprises a shaped moulded cornice with elegant canted and fluted corners, with four graduated moulded drawers decorated with mirror-matched burr walnut fronts, boxwood inlay and later period brass swan neck handles and pierced escutcheon backplates. The drawers retain their working steel lever locks with key. The lower chest mirrors the design of the top chest but with a slightly wider waist and deeper drawers. The Georgian tallboy incorporates its original pine sides, later backboards and stands on its original bracket feet. The Georgian walnut chest on chest is a two-piece chest; it dismantles into two two sections for easy transport, access into the house and up the staircase. This is an ideal item for the bedroom or landing as it provides significant storage space for clothes.
