Object Description
This is a fabulous stunning and thoroughly extravagant antique Victorian silver plate and gilded centrepiece set, also know in French as a “Surtout de table”,bearing the makers mark JR for John Round & Sons, Sheffield England.
It is English, made in Sheffield, the bases feature three silver gilt swans and have lion’s paw feet.
The set comprises:
* a silver plate cut glass centrepiece with four small cut glass bowls and a large cut glass bowl in the centre – this glass can be removed and replaced with detachable sconces to form a candelabra.
* a pair of silver plate comports with cut glass bowls
* a large and impressive silver plated three section mirrored plateau in the classic English style, with a beautiful decorative border.
The craftsmanship is second to none throughout all aspects of this set and this exceptional ensemble is sure to add an unparalleled touch of class to any fine dining experience.

John Round & Son Ltd,
The firm was established by John Round in Sheffield in 1847 as a small familiar workshop attached to his house in Tudor Street. The business proved successful and the firm in partnership with his son Edwin went under the title of John Round & Son. In 1874 the firm became John Round & Son Ltd and in 1886 the business of Ridge, Allcard & Co (Lions Works, Eyre Lane) was amalgamated and John Ridge became the manager. The main factory was the renewed Tudor Works, Tudor Street, Sheffield while warious showrooms operated in London.
