Description:
This is a good quality antique English Victorian stream painting, of a lady crossing a country stream, signed “W. R. Hoyles”, circa 1900, in excellent condition. William R. Hoyles (circa 1870 – 1935) was an accomplished English artist who was primarily known for his watercolour paintings of English country landscapes around the early 1900s.

This landscape painting depicts a lady crossing a country stream. William R. Hoyles leads the eye from the bottom left-hand side of the picture over a flimsy wooden bridge, spanning a shallow stream. This is navigated by an elegant lady holding firmly to the rail, with one hand, whilst protecting her skirts with the other. The lane winds up a bank, with a large tree on the right-hand side and distant hills on the horizon.

William R. Hoyles uses his excellent impressionist skills to produce a restful calm, probably a painting of a midday scene with autumnal muted colours. The watercolour is pleasing to view and a subject that one would not tire of viewing, as the more one looks, the more detail you spot.

The painting has the skill to draw you in with its range of mellow colour hues and texture depicting the quintessential English country scene of a bygone era. The Victorian watercolour picture, which is painted on paper on board, is signed “W. R. Hoyles” in the bottom left-hand corner. The watercolour is housed in a new sympathetic mounting, set within its original gilt picture frame, which is in excellent condition.

This Victorian stream painting would look superb in a variety of rooms, including the hallway, living room or bedroom. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is an attractive and colourful piece. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely picture.
