This superb mahogany writing desk by Donald Ross features Ross’ distinctive “trellis and dot” marquetry of satinwood and rosewood. The desk is surmounted by a top adorned with this idiosyncratic marquetry, which is framed in gilt bronze and set above a conforming apron inset with twin drawers, between of which is a gilt bronze frame containing a porcelain plaque. The table is supported by four tapering legs, which are framed in gilt bronze and terminate in gilt bronze sabots.
One drawer is stamped ‘Edwards & Roberts’ for the retailer.
