Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Victorian watercolour painting, of a woodland winter rural scene depicting working horses in the winter months, by Walter Henry Pigott, circa 1882, of large proportions, in a gold leaf mounted frame, in excellent condition. The painting depicts three horses dragging felled tree boughs from a wood, flanked by two men, into a nearby ploughed field, waiting to be winched onto a waiting horse cart. The Victorian painting has the skill to draw you in with its range of rustic / pastel colour hues and textures, depicting a quintessential English agricultural scene. It is signed and dated in the bottom right corner, framed in a later large mounted gilt frame, protected by glass, which is in excellent condition.

This Victorian watercolour painting would look superb in a variety of rooms, including the hallway, living or dining room. As this is a large painting, it would fit well in a large room. The watercolour is in excellent original condition – the colours are strong and there is no sign of fading or crazing to the picture. The painting is signed and dated in the bottom right corner, protected by glass and housed in its original fabulous ornate gilt frame, which is in excellent condition. Nominal old age marks to the leading edges of the gilt frame, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. This Victorian watercolour painting, is ready to hang.

Artist – History:
Walter Henry Pigott was a British artist (1810 – 1901) who painted mostly in watercolours. He exhibited four works at the Royal Academy, London and also in Suffolk Street. His subject usually depicted farm scenes – particularly working horses in rural landscapes but he sometimes he painted seascapes in oil. There was always plenty of action and detail in his work. Walter Henry Pigott was a Yorkshire man and loved to paint in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and also Wales.

A free 14-day “no quibble” returns policy (from the date you receive the item) is available if you are not happy with this item.
