Object Description
Antique French clear cut glass and ormolu twelve-light chandelier
French, c. 1880
Height 115cm, diameter 75cm
This eye-catching chandelier was crafted in France in the late 19th century. Its splendid shape and decoration are made from ormolu and clear cut-glass.
Most of the central stem is adorned with several levels of expertly cast ormolu palm tree leaves. A selection of delicate clear cut glass droplets hangs from each branch. Some of the branches terminate in a larger selection of droplets arranged in a flower-like formation. The lower part of the chandelier includes an ormolu basket concealing several light bulbs. Twelve superbly crafted arms extend outwards and finish with a beautiful drip pan and light. Their design is synonymous with Rococo style ornamentation. In keeping with the design of the top part of the chandelier, a further selection of clear cut glass droplets hangs from the ormolu arms.
This exquisite chandelier is guaranteed to add a touch of refined elegance to an interior space.
