Object Description
Circa 1740, original George I figured walnut bureau. The rectangular top in mirror matched figured walnut with herringbone banding above a flap with moulded rim, herringbone banding, panels of figured and oyster cut walnut, and original brass escutcheon. This opens to an oak- and walnut-lined interior with arched pigeonholes, drawers and slides, and with sliding “well” at its base. The deep frieze with lopers is over a moulded waist and 2 short and 2 long graduated drawers. These have their original fret brass handles and escutcheons, and back to front oak liners. All over a thumb moulded base and shaped bracket feet.
