Object Description
Circa 1780, George III inlaid mahogany bureau bookcase. With both top and base in finest mahogany and contemporary to one another, with moulded cornice with string inlay. Unusually, the top doors are panelled with mirror matched flame mahogany with string inlay, opening to 3 adjustable shelves with moulded facings. The flap opening to a fitted interior with shaped drawers, pigeonholes, leather writing surface and various mahogany and satinwood inlaid compartments. The base with 2 short over 3 full length drawers all with swan neck handles, pierced backplates and bone inlaid escutcheons, flanked by lopers with gilded cast brass handles. A simple moulding is over the tall, French bracket feet.
