An antique Grand Tour faux book of plaster intaglios by Pietro Paoletti (1801-1847).

This intriguing book encloses thirty-eight classically themed Italian medallions surrounded by a gilt border on a deep blue background between two handsome covers.

The faux book spine reads ‘Pompeo Mastrozzi’ and ‘Museu Diversi’, meaning different museums, accompanied by a hand-written index page inscribed ‘Sifanno in Roma Piazza di Spagna No 49’.

The book by this talented Italian painter showcases a characterful timeworn rustic look while the medallions display an elegant lightly weathered finish. A perfect decorative piece evoking style and intrigue.

Pietro Paoletti (1801-1847)
