Object Description

An antique Grand Tour style alabaster bust of a classical Grecian figure.

Dating to the late 19th century, the hand carved figure thought to be Chronos, Greek God of Time, is complimented by a tablet titled ‘of times’ displayed on cylindrical column and square plinth.

Its eye-catching, defined features and expressive face make this sculpture a striking decorative piece.

Chronos

Chronos, Greek God of Time, was known for being the titan who overthrew his father, Uranus.

His mother, Gaia, helped him sneak into the place where Uranus slept and castrated him with a flint.

Chronos then took over as the leader of the Titans and the cosmos.

Object Condition
