Antique Heriz Carpet
2.86 x 2.12 m
Heriz carpets, made in Northwest Persia are in a class of their own. Prized for their geometric designs, fine durable construction, and creative palettes, they make ideal long-lasting rugs, incorporating the bold, graphic drawing of tribal and nomadic rugs, with the high-quality weaving of a Persian workshop piece.
This attractive Heriz carpet, dating to the beginning of the 20th Century boasts an unusual overall pattern, rather than the more conventional central medallion, over a terracotta field, which serves to compliment the tasteful variety of natural-dyed colours in the drawing, including soft greens, sky blue, faded yellow and ivory, famed by a muted indigo border of great proportions – a well-balanced composition, relative to this piece’s smaller format.
Preserved in very good condition for everyday use, still retaining its outer borders and fringes on all sides, this antique Heriz carpet is a timeless piece, rare in this size, with the versatility to compliment a variety of settings.
