Dating from the late 19th Century, this wonderful geometric design Heriz carpet is full of character, amazing large scale border design of leaves and floral motifs. The main field design has stylised leaves and abstract flowers, with a dark indigo blue background and changing throughout, as the weavers used different batches of dye, this dye change is known as ‘abrash’ it adds great depth and character to antique carpets. The minor pale blue border has some great abrash too, as you look along you will see the subtle changes in colour from pale blue to mid-blues. The main border in deep red, changes to terracotta too. Golden yellow dyes, greens, pinks and pale blues are great natural dyes that have been used for the all over design.
