Woven in East Azerbaijan province of Northern Persia, Heriz is an area famous for richly coloured geometric carpets. This unusual Heriz is woven with a Karaja all over star and latch-hook design in brilliant warm colours. Karaja is a neighbouring village around less than 1 hour from Heriz region. These tribal weavers would travel and see varying designs and implement them into their carpets, which is what makes antique carpets so fascinating!
A fantastic design and in great pile and condition this carpet was woven over 100 years ago and now we have professionally washed this carpet it is ready for the floor. Heriz carpets have always been regarded as beautiful, tough objects of decoration, made in the north-west of Persia these handwoven works of art always have variations from one piece to another. Some draw influences from further north into the Caucasus.
