Object Description

A very handsome antique Heriz runner, well drawn design with deep blues medallions and gorgeous soft blue, golden flowers.  On a warm red background colour and repeating star design minor border.  A really beautiful antique runner to enhance a corridor or hall, dating from 1890-1910 the pile height is generally high and no major losses to the fringes or side-cord.

Heriz and Karaja are not far from the Azerbaijan Border so they draw influences from many Caucasian rugs and runners. They are easily recognisable with repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif is often the latch-hooked design motif or an eight-pointed star.  The village weavings of Karaja such as this runner often use a simpler repeating medallion design with a great array of colour.
