Object Description

A lovely rustic and narrow antique runner from Heriz in North-West Persia, woven around 1900-1910.  With a soft and high wool pile all over, professionally washed by ourselves and ready for the floor.  We supply excellent underlay with item, which helps the runner stay still, sit flat and keeps it secure on the floor.  We love the warm red brick tones on this piece, with varying blue dyes and soft yellowish dyes in the minor borders.  Classic diamond design with stylised floral motifs, Heriz runners have a lot of charm and this one is full of character too.

Request a home visit to arrange an ideal day and time for us to visit you to show you this antique Heriz runner in situ, so you can see if the size, colour and design works in your home.

Object Literature

Heriz and Karaja are not far from the Azerbaijan Border so they draw influences from many Caucasian rugs and runners. They are easily recognisable with repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif is often the latch-hooked design motif or an eight-pointed star.  The village weavings of Karaja such as this runner often use a simpler repeating medallion design with a great array of colour.

Object Condition

In great pile, soft wool and no repairs or damage. Washed and ready for the floor.
