Object Description
Antique Japanese patinated bronze eagle
Japanese, c. 1900
Height 54cm, width 67cm, depth 32cm
This fine and naturalistic Meiji period bronze model is cast into the form of an eagle, who grips into his stump-like perch with long claws as his wings are outstretched. The sculpture, as is typical of Japanese works of this period, evinces great dynamism and energy. The work is a superb example of Japanese Meiji period design and craftsmanship.
