Object Description

This gem of a carpet is articulated with an infinitely detailed and distinctive geometric design.  The naturally dyed palette of pale blue, terracotta and green extends to every corner of this antique Persian Joshegan.  It is framed by a wide border and still retains its fringes on both sides.

This timeless carpet would work well in both contemporary and classic settings.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to view this wonderful carpet either in our showroom or at your location.

Object History

Josheghan is a village in the Isfahan Province of central Persia, situated near the historical city of Kashan. It was one of the early weaving villages for large carpets without a city workshop facility. Early examples of the 17th and 18th centuries can be found in museums, and historic and stately homes.

Object Condition

This early Joshegan has minor age-related wear, but is in good practical condition for everyday use.  The light wear adds great patina and character, and the array of vegetable-dyed colours have wonderfully aged.
