Object History

Purchased from a private collection.

Object Literature

Karaja carpets and rugs were woven in a village in the northeast of the Heriz region of Persia, not far from the Azerbaijan Border.  The rugs often use 8 pointed star motifs and sometimes they weave in animals and people which adds great interest. They are easily recognisable with three repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif has the latch-hooked design and the other two are eight-pointed stars.

Object Condition

In lovely original condition, no areas of restoration and washed ready for the floor.
