These antique runners are extremely robust and can take a lot of use everyday. The repeating star motif design in the main field is common with runners from the north of Persia and often take designs from Caucasian rug designs.
Heriz and Karaja are not far from the Azerbaijan Border so they draw influences from many Caucasian rugs and runners. They are easily recognisable with repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif is often the latch-hooked design motif or an eight-pointed star. The village weavings of Karaja such as this runner often use a simpler repeating medallion design with a great array of colour.
